Science Journal#10 project#2

In our today’s lesson we conducted the practical “common indicators”. This practical was about what happens when an indicator mixes with other acids, base and water. So an indicator like methyl orange mixing with sodium hydroxide would most likely turn yellow. Most of the results are shown in our textbook Science Focus 3, pages 61 and 62. Another successful practical…J

And so far as a group I think we are working very well, we are sharing the work around and we are communicating well so hopefully we can carry on like this therefore receive good marks for our project…J

Science Journal#9 project#2

In our today’s lesson we conducted the practical “displacement”. We put a piece of zinc into a copper sulphate solution. We waited for a while (5 min) and then saw what was happening, the piece of zinc changed its colour from silver to black colour. It was another successful practical, which was carried out by our class…J

Science Journal#8 project#2

In our today’s lesson we conducted an experiment that was about different metals reacting with different acids. We were given 3 different acids-hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid and acetic and 4 other metals-magnesium, zinc, aluminium and iron.

We only managed to test all 4 different metals in the hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid and yet there wasn’t any reaction that we were hoping for. We hoped that it will make a popping sound but it didn’t, in fact magnesium and aluminium were the only two metals that had a reaction, they started forming bubbles as soon as the light up matchstick was held over the test tube. We did not get to finish the rest of the experiment and the class ran out of matches. So this was our first experiment which didn’t really work out…L

Science Journal#7 project#2

In our today’s lesson we firstly took down some notes on Naming Ionic Compounds and then under stood the whole system on how it works, Everyone In the class really paid attention to this, as miss said that this will certainly help us out in our future and we will be needing this information for further chemistry…Later in the lesson we got to see our results for the experiment we did with iron nail in different conditions. These are the results that we got -

  • The iron nail in water had rust formed on it.
  • The iron nail in oil had rust formed on it as well.
  • The iron nail that left in silica gel remained how it was before.
  • The iron nail that was left by itself, also started forming rust on it.

Science Journal#6 project#2

In our today’s lesson we had a Test on a practical report. We got giving a paragraph on a experiment which was carried out by a student it was based on how far you could jump with your feet together compared with jumping with your feet apart. We had to write paragraphs on Hypothesis, Equipment, Result, Conclusion, Question, Variables and Discussion. In this report they had given us the names of the person the foot size and also the distance they jumped. This whole report test took the whole period. Luckily in this test I managed to get 22 out off 26, thanks miss…J

The second practical that we did in our class was on Combustion meaning “the process of burning. We had a little limewater in one testube and the other test tube with sulphur. The testube with sulphur was held on top of the Bunsen burner via the help of tongs and both were connected with small hollow tube. What we saw then was that the limewater transformed into a black colour and it had started forming bubbles.

Science Journal#4 project#2

In today’s lesson we did 2 practicals. First one was done to see what would happen when you burn magnesium strip over the Bunsen burner. So we got a little piece of magnesium strip and held it over the Bunsen burner via the help of tongs. It then reacted with the heat that was giving off by light and heat energy so it then caused very bright flame and few fire sparks. This material is found in Fireworks to make the bright colours and other fancy things such as sparks.

In our past few lessons we have been learning, talking and discussing about chemical reactions as our next project is based on that -How do the chemical reactions occur? what are the signs of a chemical reaction? are just few examples of question that we have learned about. In our last lesson we did a practical experiment based on the chemical reaction that happens when rust is formed over a iron nail -Scientific Report

Science Journal#2 project#2

Our new project is based on safety when doing practicle. It sounds interesting as it is based on parcticals which we havn’t done for many months.I’am really looking forward in getting on with my work. This porject will also help me in my future when I need to do practicles in higher classes. From this I’ll learn how to write scientific report and other stuff.

Science Journal#1 project#2

Evaluation of first project-

1.Would you make any changes/improvementsto your project?what?

1. I would make many changes to my project, for example- write about history of  the periodic table, add pictures, and shells of electrons.

2.Favourite project-why?

2.I liked John lahoud and George Batour’s the best because it had all the critriea in it as well it was funny.

3.How can you improve on your skills in next project?

3. I can improve my project by using other technologies rather than using powerpoint.

4.Who in your opinion had good presentation skills? why?

4.John lahoud had a very good presentation because he included most of the things and was confident while speaking.
